Middle School

What: A hands-on, interdisciplinary, middle school. Like Chewonki’s Maine Coast Semester (MCS) and Burlington City and Lake Semester (BCL), this program will be place-based, use local issues as the focus, and make the learning experience real.

Who: For rising 7th and 8th graders, building a cohort of 12 students.

Where: Based at Torit Montessori, but tapping into nearby people and resources. The program would be highly mobile. Think “day pack, Chromebook, go!”

Why: to explore a new, innovative middle school model and build enthusiasm for a Montessori-inspired experience for older students (multiage, 7th and 8th grade combined, interdisciplinary teachers, extended work blocks, intrinsic motivation).
